Specialists, Not Generalists.
We focus exclusively on natural stone. We do not clean carpets, wash windows, or refinish wood floors. Stone restoration is all we do.
Marble, travertine, Saltillo, terrazzo and stone countertops, restored by hand across Tampa Bay. Owner operated by Oscar Tineo for 27+ years.
Marble Mechanics is Tampa Bay's premier natural stone restoration company. Owner Oscar Tineo brings 27+ years of expertise in marble polishing, travertine restoration, Saltillo tile cleaning, and natural stone sealing to residential and commercial clients across 79 cities in the Tampa Bay area.
Stone does not wear evenly, and it rarely wears where you expect. Foot traffic flattens the finish on floors. Tampa's humidity and hard water dull travertine pool decks. Acidic spills etch kitchen countertops. Saltillo tile absorbs dirt and loses its warm terracotta color under old, failing sealers.
All of it is repairable, and none of it needs the stone torn out. We cut the damaged layer away with diamond abrasives and bring the finish back out of the stone itself, so the shine is the stone and not a coating sitting on top of it. Whether you have a marble foyer in South Tampa, a travertine pool deck in Clearwater, or Saltillo tile floors in a St. Petersburg bungalow, we restore them to the condition you remember.
The Natural Stone Institute recommends professional restoration and sealing to protect your investment and extend the life of your natural stone surfaces.

Before The assessment. Every defect flagged and agreed with the owner before a machine touches the floor.
Acid burn. The polish is gone in blotches, so cleaning will never bring this back.
Pitting and scratches, with the softer material broken out along the veining.
After The crack filled and color matched, the etching cut away, the floor reflecting the room again.
Specialist restoration for the floors, counters, showers and entryways you live and work on every day.
Etched, dull or scratched marble brought back to a mirror finish. Floors, showers, stairs and fireplaces, polished in place.
Open holes filled, the worn finish cut back and resealed. Travertine floors, pool decks, pavers and showers that face Florida weather.
Etch marks, dull patches and scratches polished out of marble, granite and quartz countertops. The slab stays. Only the damage goes.
Cloudy, peeling sealer stripped and the terracotta underneath brought back. Authentic Mexican Saltillo tile, resealed to last.
Gray, stained grout cleaned and color sealed back to one even line. Kitchens, bathrooms and commercial floors.
A penetrating sealer so spills sit on top instead of soaking in. Marble, travertine, granite and limestone, sealed for Tampa humidity.
Decades of coating ground off and the original chips polished back. Mid-century terrazzo in Tampa Bay homes and commercial buildings.
Limestone is softer than marble and takes a lighter hand. Honed, polished and sealed for floors, walls and outdoor surfaces.
Years of grime washed off and the color sealed in before the next rainy season. Brick, concrete and natural stone pavers.
Every project starts with a free on-site inspection. Oscar Tineo personally evaluates the condition of your stone, identifies the issues, and recommends the right approach before any work begins.
Inspect the stone surface and assess the damage.
Diamond grind to remove scratches, etching, and surface damage.
Progressive polishing through finer diamond grits to restore shine.
Apply professional grade penetrating sealer for lasting protection.
We use wet polishing techniques that produce minimal dust. You do not need to leave your home. Most residential projects are completed in one day.
Every job is priced after we see it in person. That is not a dodge, it is the only honest way to quote this work. Two floors that look identical from across the room can need very different work once you get close to them.
Marble Mechanics restores stone rather than replacing it. For context on the alternative, replacing a countertop outright runs $2,400 to $6,000 or more once you factor in the new slab, demolition, and installation. Restoration saves 60 to 80% over replacement in almost every case. We do not sell or install slabs.
Every project starts with a free on-site assessment. We examine the stone, document all damage, and provide a line-by-line quote before any work begins. No hidden fees. No surprises.

Yes, and on a floor or a countertop that has lost its finish, cleaning is only the first half of the job. Household cleaning takes dirt off the surface. What makes marble look dull is the surface itself: etching from acid, fine scratches from grit, and a sealer that has worn through. Marble Mechanics cleans the stone and then restores the surface underneath with diamond abrasives, so the shine comes back from the stone rather than from a coating laid over it.
Almost always. Marble is a solid stone all the way through, not a veneer, so the damaged top layer can be taken off and a new finish cut into it. That is the whole basis of restoration: the floor you already own comes back rather than being replaced. We have brought back floors that owners had already priced out for demolition.
It depends on what you mean by buffed. A buffing pad on a dull floor spreads polish around and the result lasts weeks. Removing scratches and etch marks means grinding the surface flat with progressive diamond abrasives and then polishing it, which is permanent until something new damages it. We do the second one. We never use wax, acrylic coatings or shine products that wear off.
Yes. Saltillo tile can be stripped of old topical sealer, deep cleaned, and re-sealed to restore its original warm, terracotta color. Marble Mechanics uses professional grade products safe for authentic Mexican Saltillo tile.
Not always. Travertine takes a polished finish or a honed matte one, and both are correct. What travertine always needs is its holes kept filled and a sealer that is working, because the stone is porous and open pits collect dirt and hold moisture. If the floor is dull because the finish has worn, polishing brings it back. If it is dull because it is unsealed and dirty, cleaning and sealing is the answer.
Yes, including floors that look past saving. Pits and holes are filled and color matched, the surface is honed flat to take out scratches and etching, the finish is cut back in, and the stone is sealed. Travertine responds well because the damage is nearly always in the top layer and in the fill, not in the body of the stone.
A light scratch, yes. The surface around it is honed down to the depth of the scratch so the whole area sits level, then the finish is rebuilt to match the rest of the floor. A deep gouge, or a chip that has taken a piece out, is a fill and color match first and then the same process. What does not work is polishing over a scratch, because the scratch is below the surface and the polish sits on top of it.
A pH neutral cleaner made for stone, a damp microfiber mop rather than a wet one, and drying afterwards. Nothing acidic: vinegar, lemon, bathroom cleaners and most general purpose sprays will etch marble on contact and leave dull marks that cleaning cannot remove. Grit is the other enemy, because it scratches underfoot, so sweep or dust mop more often than you wash.
It depends on the stone, the square footage and what the surface needs, which is why every job starts with a free on-site assessment and a written, line by line quote before any work begins. Cleaning alone costs less than restoration. The assessment tells you which one the floor actually needs, and sometimes the answer is the cheaper one.
It depends on the size of the floor, its condition and the finish you want, so every job starts with a free on-site assessment and a written, line by line quote before any work begins. A floor that only needs a clean and a reseal costs a fraction of one that needs grinding flat and a new finish cut into it. The assessment tells you which one you are actually looking at, and you approve the number before anyone touches the stone.
